Tennessee Volunteers Card Collector’s Box Set

Five Cards, and Somehow Each One Takes Me to a Different Saturday

I wouldn’t start arranging this set by position.

I’d start by asking, “Which Tennessee era does this card make you think about?”

That’s where the Tennessee Volunteers Card Collector’s Box Set gets interesting. The five pictured cards don’t belong to one roster or one championship season. Instead, the collection jumps across generations, giving each card its own place in the larger Tennessee football story.

Orange ties everything together.

The memories don’t have to come from the same decade.

Reggie White Opens the Set With a 1983 Season Card

The first pictured card is labeled Reggie White and uses a 1983 Season header.

His design shows 15 sacks and 100 tackles, with “1983 All-American” printed across the lower portion of the card.

Beside him is Johnny Majors.

His card switches to a College Career presentation and displays 1,622 rushing yards and 1,135 passing yards, followed by a “1956 All-American” banner.

Already, those first two cards feel completely different from each other—and that’s exactly what I like about the set.

It isn’t five versions of the same card with the name changed.

Berry and Wilson Move the Collection Into Another Generation

The Eric Berry card continues the career-style format with 14 interceptions and 494 interception return yards shown in the artwork. A red-orange banner highlights the 2009 Jim Thorpe Award.

Then there’s Al Wilson.

His pictured card displays 272 tackles and 11 sacks, with “1998 National Champion” featured prominently below.

Put Berry and Wilson beside the earlier cards and the collection starts feeling less like a single snapshot and more like someone pulled favorite pages from different Tennessee football albums.

That’s the kind of display I’d keep coming back to.

Peyton Manning Gets the Story Side

The fifth pictured card gives us something different: its reverse.

It’s labeled Peyton Manning, Quarterback #16, with a Tennessee college career of 1994–1997 printed on the card artwork.

The reverse displays 11,201 passing yards, 89 passing touchdowns and 863 completions, followed by a 1997 Maxwell Award banner.

Below that is a section called “A Moment in the Legacy.”

I like that format because it gives the collection two ways to be viewed. The front can work as the quick player-and-stat display, while the reverse has room for a longer career-style story.

I’d probably rotate which side faces outward every once in a while.

One Small Detail Matters: The Signatures Are Illustrative

The four visible card fronts each have blue signature-style artwork near the bottom.

But look directly underneath and you’ll see the wording “Illustrative Signature.”

So these shouldn’t be described as autographed cards or authentic player signatures.

They’re decorative signature-style elements incorporated into the card designs.

For a collector product, keeping that wording clear avoids turning a nice visual feature into something the product isn’t claiming to be.

Orange, Cream and Just Enough Gold

The presentation box keeps things much simpler than the cards.

Its exterior uses Tennessee orange with cream panels, thin gold detailing and TENNESSEE VOLUNTEERS lettering along the front edge. A large orange T occupies one panel.

That’s probably how I’d display it: cards spread in front, box slightly behind them.

The cards supply all the individual stories.

The box supplies the Tennessee identity that pulls them back together.

I’d Leave the Five Cards Out and Keep Moving Them Around

Maybe White and Majors belong at opposite ends.

Maybe Manning belongs in the center.

Then I’d look at Wilson’s national championship card and change the arrangement again.

That’s the charm of the Tennessee Volunteers Card Collector’s Box Set. There isn’t one obvious way to look at five players from different periods of Tennessee football.

They’re five separate stories sharing the same orange.

And for a Volunteers fan, figuring out which card gets the best spot might be half the fun.
