Pittsburgh Penguins 60th Anniversary Tree Christmas Ornament

Pittsburgh Hockey Built Into a Christmas Tree

Instead of placing an anniversary logo onto a conventional ornament, this design builds an entire Pittsburgh Penguins hockey scene into the silhouette of a snow-covered Christmas tree.

At the center stands a cheerful penguin mascot figure dressed in black and gold, holding a hockey stick in one hand and a championship-style silver cup in the other. Behind it, the artwork expands outward into a miniature Pittsburgh setting with arena architecture, city buildings, bridges, rink imagery and stadium lights.

The result feels almost like several generations of Penguins memories compressed into one holiday scene.

Look From the Star Down

The composition is designed to be explored vertically. A star featuring the familiar skating-penguin emblem crowns the tree, followed by a large gold “P” surrounded by falling snow.

Further down, the city and hockey elements begin to overlap. A black-and-gold flag, arena scenery and Pittsburgh architecture establish the location, while a small scoreboard reads “PPG Paints Arena – Penguins vs Caps.” At the bottom, a miniature hockey rink sits beneath the anniversary banner, completing the transition from Christmas tree to hockey tribute.

Snowflakes, icicles and holly details keep all of those sports elements connected to the holiday setting rather than making the piece feel like a standard team emblem.

Six Decades of Penguins Hockey

The anniversary theme also lines up with a real milestone for the franchise. NHL records list the Penguins’ franchise date as June 5, 1967 and their first NHL season as 1967–68.

The organization is officially celebrating its 60th anniversary during the 2026–27 season, with commemorative events and anniversary branding planned throughout the season.

That gives the prominent “60th Anniversary,” “Est. 1967,” and “2027” elements in the ornament a meaningful connection to the team’s current anniversary season rather than functioning as decoration alone.

More Than a Single Team Logo

What makes this Pittsburgh Penguins anniversary ornament visually interesting is the number of different memories it can represent at once.

There is the team identity in the black-and-gold palette and penguin imagery. There is Pittsburgh itself in the skyline and bridge-inspired scenery. Hockey appears through the stick, rink and arena details, while the snowy tree silhouette turns everything into a seasonal display.

For a longtime Penguins fan, those layers can evoke more than one game or one player. The design is ultimately about the larger experience of following Pittsburgh hockey across generations—and bringing a little of that history onto the Christmas tree.
